As I sit here looking out the window, I am in awe of the beauty of God’s creation. The sun feels warm on my face, and the trees sway gently in the cool morning breeze. In just a few hours, that same sun will feel much hotter, and the breeze will no longer be as refreshing. Nature changes, but our God never does.
The Word reminds us in Malachi 3:6, “For I am the Lord, I do not change.” Seasons change. Circumstances change. People change. Yet our God remains faithful, consistent, and true. Hebrews 13:8 declares, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” Because He never changes, we can confidently place our trust in Him.
Because God is unchanging, we should root ourselves deeply in Him. Colossians 2:6–7 encourages us to continue walking in Christ, “rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith.” Trees with deep roots can withstand strong winds because they draw strength from what lies beneath the surface. In the same way, when our lives are rooted in Christ, we are strengthened by His Word, sustained by His presence, and nourished by His promises.
Those deep roots become the foundation on which we stand. Jesus teaches in Matthew 7:24–25 that the wise person builds on the rock. When the rain falls, the floods rise, and the winds beat against the house, it does not fall because it is founded upon the rock. The storms of life will surely come, even for believers, but when our lives are built on Christ, we may bend under pressure, yet we will not break. Our strength is not found in ourselves but in the One who never fails.
Life has a way of changing without warning. Relationships shift, jobs change, unexpected diagnoses arise, and seasons of joy can quickly become seasons of sorrow. If our peace is tied to circumstances, it will rise and fall with them. But when our hope is anchored in Christ, we can remain steady even when everything around us feels uncertain. Our confidence is not in the absence of storms but in the presence of the One who walks with us through them.
When I think about ships and boats, I think about their anchors. An anchor is lowered to keep a vessel secure when the waters become rough or the currents become strong. But unlike a physical anchor that is used only when needed, our God is always our anchor. Hebrews 6:19 says, “This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast.” He steadies us when life feels uncertain and keeps us from drifting away.
So today, stay rooted in His Word. Build your life on His unchanging foundation. Keep your soul anchored in His promises. The seasons will change, the winds will blow, and storms will come, but our God remains the same. He is faithful yesterday, faithful today, and faithful forever. Because He does not change, neither do His love, His promises, nor His power to sustain those who trust in Him.
When your life is rooted in Him, grounded on His foundation, and anchored in His hope, you can face every season with confidence, knowing that the One who holds you will never let you go.
